UYAHF is looking to hire 1 proactive, strategic, and open-minded team member to join our ADH clinic and play the role of fulltimeMidwife.

The new team member will play a critical role of providing quality, integrated and comprehensive health care services including clinical care, sexual reproductive health, and maternal and child health services according to Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines and service standards.

Reports to:       Facility In-charge  – UYAHF ADH Clinic

As a Registered Nurse/Midwife, your role is to provide quality, integrated and comprehensive health care services including clinical care, sexual reproductive health, and maternal and child health services according to Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines and service standards.

 Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Inform, educate, and communicate with clients, to motivate and enable them to make informed choices on SRHR, HIV/AIDS, and other general health care services.
  • Provide quality, integrated and comprehensive medical health care services including sexual reproductive health and maternal and child health services, HIV and STI services, and other general medical services to clients at all UYAHF Adolescent Health Clinic delivery points as per Ministry of Health guidelines and service standards.
  • Refer clients where necessary, to define referral point(s) using UYAHF’s clearly agreed referral systems.
  • Collect and maintain complete and accurate records of clients according to MOH guidelines
  • Analyze and utilize data to improve service delivery at health service delivery points
  • Ensure timely reporting to the supervisor on matters that need attention/information
  • Participate in preparing work plans and budgets for medical services at the UYAHF Adolescent Health Clinic.
  • Provide integrated youth friendly non-judgmental and none discriminatory services while observing privacy, and confidentiality, and regularly engage young people in planning for service delivery interventions.
  • Carry out voluntary counseling and provide psycho-social support to all clients that require these services eg, clients on TB treatment, HIV-positive clients, and victims of sexual and gender-based violence among others.
  • Provide family planning services to all clients regardless of age and ensure to provide information on a range of available services.
  • Carry out physical examination and appropriate investigations of clients, and treat opportunistic infections
  • Carry out pregnancy tests and provide antenatal, perinatal, and postnatal care support.
  • Diagnose and treat clients with STDs, and notify their sexual partners where possible
  • Make timely orders for drugs and other medical supplies, store them appropriately when received by updating the medicines stalk system, and render proper accountability for them.
  • Keep clear and organized records of all clients visiting the clinic. Records must be kept in both hard and soft copies and saved on a secure online platform that will be approved by UYAHF management.
  • Ensure safe custody of all client data. All hard copy data must be stored in clearly labeled files and kept in lockable shelves and rooms with minimal access to the keys. Keys must be accessed by only authorized staff.
  • Dispense drugs to clients as prescribed, providing them with the necessary accompanying information
  • Keep an up-to-date record of drugs and other medical items received, drugs and supplies in stock as well as those dispensed.
  • Keep a record of all hospital equipment and ensure its safety and good use and timely reporting of damages and malfunctions to your supervisor.
  • Provide ongoing counseling to help clients cope with their situations and manage stress and change
  • Participate in community outreaches such as in schools, slum communities, busy trading centers, universities, etc.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of all change champions and provide adequate guidance to ensure the adequate running of the UYAHF Youth Hub.
  • Keep proper records of clients on treatment
  • Maintain data on counseling and nursing activities carried out and produce and present weekly and monthly reports to your supervisor and share monthly reports with the district, either using the HMIS 2 system or submitting to the district biostatistician.
  • Participate in UYAHF research and evaluation activities related to medical services
  • Perform any other professional duties as may be assigned to the supervisor(s)/designee.

 Personal specifications


Essential criteria

  • Possess 5 (five) years of working experience as a midwife.
  • Qualified to the level of Diploma
  • Registered with Uganda Nurses and Midwife’s Council

Other Personal Attributes

  • The candidate must adhere to the safeguarding, reporting, fraud prevention, and monitoring requirements of UYAHF for this role.
  • The candidate must be pro-choice.
