Ugandan Youth activists to petition Parliament, to make contraceptive services universally accessible and affordable.
Youth health activists in Uganda have vowed to petition the chairperson of the health committee of parliament of Uganda over the need to priorities and increase investment for reproductive health services and supplies by making contraceptives services universally available, accessible and affordable to all young people.
This was during the 2016 Post World Contraceptive Day Community Activation held Saturday 15th October 2016 at the Kasangati Grounds in Wakiso district. The community activation was organized by Uganda Youth and Adolescents Health Forum in partnership with Public Health Ambassadors Uganda, the Youth Equality Center Uganda and Naguru Teenage and Information Center under the theme; “Contraception; It’s Your Life, It’s Your Responsibility”
The community activation that gathered over 300 people and mainly adolescents and young people was aimed at; demystifying myths and breaking, stigma and the taboos surrounding contraceptive use among sexually active young people, increasing community knowledge on availability, accessibility and utilization of contraceptive services, increasing access to quality sexual reproductive health services including HCT services, Contraception services, menstruation hygiene information and products, Blood Donation, Cervical cancer and Breast cancer screening among others. The activation also aimed at Increasing community knowledge on the role contraception plays in reducing unsafe abortions and preventing maternal mortality and injuries.
