UYAHF takes part in the World Economic Forum on Africa.
From 4th to 6th September 2019, our programme Officer Sexual Reproductive Health and Gender equality, Ms Apio Winnie had the privilege to attend the World Economic Forum on Africa in Cape Town South Africa. The World Economic Forum on Africa is an annual meeting that aims to tackle the main geopolitical , climate change and country financial issues altering Africa’s self employment and development by focusing on how to scale up the transformation of regional architecture related to institutions, infrastructure, integration, industrialization and innovation. This year’s meeting focused on ‘shaping inclusive growth and shared futures in the fourth industrial revolution and convened over 1,000 regional and global leaders from politics, business, civil society and academia to shape regional agendas.
Ms Apio was also privileged to attend a business meeting with the President, HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni where she lobbied for young people’s and women’s inclusion in talks of the future of work and the importance of their active participation in national agendas. She also actively participated in the pushing for an action plan on tackling sexual gender based violence in South Africa; which was launched as an outcome of the meeting and was pertinent to counter the rising cases of SGBV in Africa and the world at large. We look forward to further engagements with his Excellency here at home as we continue to push for the prioritization of adolescent and young people’s health and well being in the national agendas.
