On November 12th, 2021, as part of the activities at the UYAHF youth hub, over 20 young people from the Kampala suburbs of Kamokya, Bukoto, Kisaasi among others converged at the Uganda Youth and Adolescents health forum youth hub and were taught about good nutrition.

During the training, UYAHF change champion Osundwa Christine discussed with the young people how to maintain good nutrition and its importance.

Among the key points she mentioned were that good nutrition boosts body immunity, promotes good health, is a source of energy, and aids in the prevention of diseases such as obesity.

One of the young people, Ivan, also stated that good nutrition helps the skin glow and improves one’s brain’s thinking and reasoning capacity.

Furthermore, when asked about the various strategies for staying healthy as a young person, Janat, one of the young people, stated that eating fruits and vegetables on a regular basis benefits one’s health.

Hadija, a young Kamwokya resident, stated that drinking enough water, getting enough rest, and engaging in physical activities all help to improve one’s health.

The facilitator also walked the youths through the effects of poor nutrition, stating that poor nutrition causes diseases such as obesity and diabetes in young people, leads to poor body and human growth due to a lack of some, if not most, food nutrients, and also leads to retarded body growth, among other things.

She urged them to drink plenty of water on a daily basis to help them stay hydrated. As the session came to a close, the young people pledged to improve their eating habits in order to stay healthy and active.
