IEHS PROJECT

Brief about IEHS Project

The Inclusive and Equitable Healthcare Services (IEHS) Project is implemented by the Uganda Youth and Adolescents Health Forum (UYAHF) with funding from German Doctors. The project covers four districts in Eastern Uganda: Butebo, Mbale, Budaka, and Bukedea, with a combined population of over 872,000 people, nearly half of whom are women of reproductive age and children under 15.

These districts face critical health care challenges including high malaria, HIV and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) prevalence especially hypertension, reproductive health challenges including teenage pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and lack of access to services, Maternal and child health challenges including malaria in pregnancy, postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia, unsafe abortions, and stillbirths. Weak health systems, poor road networks, and shortages of skilled health workers worsen the situation, leading to preventable maternal, neonatal and under 5 child deaths.

The IEHS project takes a comprehensive and community-centered approach that includes:

  • Integrated community outreaches and mobile clinic services.
  • Curative care in selected public health facilities through Facility Support and Consultations (German Doctors’ support at health facilities).
  • Close collaboration with district local governments, schools, health workers, and community leaders.
